Hi Amanda,

My experience is that a lot of the people who make us laugh are "using" something (food [intake or neglect], drugs, alcohol, sex, money, fame, ...) to compensate for a healthier connection to life. That connection seems more threatening, I believe. That's my experience and perception, anyway.

Your "You kicked ass..." feedback to me remains one of the most positive things ever sent in my direction. People need that. Not long ago, IF I drove to someplace like CrossFit New England, I would have turned around and left. I think I've learned to care less about what other people think about what I do or how I look and get it on as best I can on any particular day (and then work on improvement, too.) In such a spotlight, I'm assuming John Candy didn't have that luxury. Yeah - damn shame.

Cheers,

Daigle and Greg,

First thank you for your insight. And, I take wonderful note that Men have commented on this post.

Daigle: Agreed. People who watch these shows, myself included, help pay the advertisers who present this predatory garbage. However, I am not sure I completely agree that the MORE TO LOVES budget is to blame for their low rent "dates." I think this is intentional. Keep the focus on the wide shot angles of these women: and, this engenders a salacious response at of any viewer.

Greg,we do enjoy laughing at these people. Which makes me sad on some level. I think of John Candy's short life and how he was found with a pizza alone on location having suffered a fatal heart attach. John Candy, who kicked ASS in Uncle Buck, was later reported as having severe bout of depression. The fat guy who made us all laugh was depressed?

More than money, we enjoy laughing at these people. Really, why else do these shows prosper and multiply? America sits back in the recliner, laughs and pokes fun at the participants on these shows. We watch the adverts and run out and buy what we receive through the (ever larger) TV screen: cheesy burgers, low mileage vehicles and miracle cleaning products. Another reason why my TV is only connected to a DVD player, and another reason why America is growing in the wrong direction, girth. (My sisters are likely watching this show at their homes. I don't understand that, either.)

I know those guys, too. They're equally repulsive to me. Introduce those prim&proper dinks to Fran and see how jolly they are, then.

Thanks for that dose of Joel, Amanda! Isn't it funny where you find truth these days!?

Cheers,

Well Beals....the answer to these questions as I'm sure you're well aware is simple. Money. This show will earn ad revenue, and they know it. It is however a B-list spin-off of a much more popular and lucrative show, so the budget is DEFINITELY lower than "the bachelor." Hence the cheap restaurant as opposed to a helicopter ride to Nantucket for dinner at one of their fine establishments. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. Honestly though, it's just as much the fault of the public for being willing participants and a) watching it and b) submitting themselves as contestants.
