Good Morning All Good Citizens of the Global Community!
Yesterday, I performed the “White Russian” Met-Con at CFNE and will purport (albeit quietly) I think I am getting stronger.
4 rounds for time of:
4 x 1-arm Russian KB Swing, right arm
4 x 1-arm KB Clean, right arm
4 x 1-arm KB Front Squat, right arm
Repeat the same complex with the left arm, then:
12 Pull ups
I did the “White Russian” in 11:34. I used 25 lb kettlebells and did jump pull-ups. And, damn, I felt great.
Again, I ask you to keep in mind that only months before the only activity I engaged in (NO EXAGGERATION) was to call a taxi to pick me up in Williamsburg and drop me off at work in Tribeca. This was repeated in reverse at 7 pm at night where upon arrival at home I would order either Pad Thai, Pizza or a Burger. I also had the luxury of ordering wine directly to my door. When food arrived, I would not greet the delivery person at the front of the building. I was too tired and lazy. I would make them come up to my door on 4th floor. Food normally would be consumed out of container on couch watching multiple hours of TV until I was literally tired from eating. I am embarrassed to admit but sometimes I would even order two servings of an item for fear that I would be starving in the middle of the night. Not my finest moment.
Today, I have two items to share with you. One is a great Mango Salsa recipe. The other is a video that my sister and I did on the seductive pull of all things sugary.
I was inspired to share this recipe of Nurse Jackie’s because of the Biggest Loser episode last night. The teams went with Jillian and Bob to a Mexican restaurant. The trainers wanted to show the contestants how to eat healthy at this kind of a restaurant. And, if you are like me, I am already tasting a frozen margarita at the back of my throat. Anyway, one of the contestants who chose the most healthy meal had a chicken salad with a half of an avocado and pieces of papaya for her dinner. I think the meal would have been even more flavorful with my mom’s, I mean Nurse Jackie’s, mango salsa.
Nurse Jackie Mango Salsa (nee Percocet)
2 Mangoes, Big Sprig of Cilantro,Large Cucumber, 2 Tomatoes, 1 small onion,1 green bell pepper.
Directions: Chop mangoes in salsa sized chunks. Dice cilantro in fine pieces. Chop up cucumber in chunks (removing seeds-Nurse Jackie neglected to write down for me how you remove seeds). Finely chop small onion. Dice and cube both tomatoes again removing seeds. Mix in bowl and chill.
Temptation Video
My sister and I did some social media spec work a few months ago. And, while we are not at liberty to say more about that work, I think you will find the video encapsualtes temptation at its most primal. Sugar is a seductress. Please note the expression of the Stains, the dog.
