I cannot outright state that the holidays resonate within my connective tissues. However, I think I am feeling much more sprightly than days past in part because of your wonderful comments and insight. I also think being on a farm, stranded, for days has worked out some kinks. And, a lovely get together has been planned.
I have communicated for a while with Allison Bojarkski, Trainer and Communications Director at The Black Box in Manhattan. She turns out to know a comedy buddy of mine, Baron Vaughn and has been kindly reading about my up and down relationship with CrossFit. Anyway, I am going to be in New York for the week doing this, that and the other and asked her if she wanted hang. A kinder response could not have been created. Allison and I are going to do some CrossFit Booster sessions at The Black Box this week and I will be chronicling a week in the life of CrossFit Coach.
From the The Black Box, Allison states:
I first heard of CrossFit in 2005 when the New York Times wrote a sensationalistic, inaccurate article about it. Even though I lifted heavy and considered myself an athlete, CrossFit sounded like more than I could handle. Fortunately, I rediscovered CrossFit’s website in January 2007, read What Is Fitness?, and knew immediately that I wanted to try it. A quick glance at the affiliates listings revealed a brand-spanking-new Black Box here in NYC and I took my first class the very next day. Halfway through my inaugural workout, I wondered if I’d be able to finish it. When I successfully completed it, I felt so proud of myself and knew that I needed to quit my job as a trainer at aGloboGym ASAP and start training my clients and myself in the CrossFit way.
The trainers here at CFNYC have all done so much to make me a better trainer and a better athlete. I learn more on a daily basis about proper form, true effort, and elite performance than I could ever have imagined. I also learn so much from my clients. I specialize in working with true beginners, especially those who don’t consider themselves “athletic.” Putting people like that through the paces of (scaled-down) CrossFit yields amazing results, both physically and mentally, and getting to be a part of that gives me immense job satisfaction.
Allison, you have your work cut out for you!

Reach out to her on Facebook. She is wildly cool and I look forward to meeting to her tomorrow. Have you ever thought of trying out a CrossFit in West Virginia? Or, doing the WOD’s on http://www.crossfit.com. During the summer, when I feel fit, if you house me, I will do a week of CrossFit for you and yours. I have always wanted to visit WV.
