12 Week Olympic Lifting Program

Bummed about the Patriots…I tell you its those quick, stout athletes like Welker with heart that make or break games.

Speaking of your local squat (quasi) athlete,  I am pleased to announce that CrossFit New England has made available Olympic Lifting sectionals in their already packed schedule. For me and my slavish blogger lifestyle, this is  dream come true as there are more opportunities to catch a CrossFit class. However, MORE IMPORTANTLY, the O Lift program being offered in balls to the wall, super human strength training. And, for what its worth, strength training is my heroine. Lifting shit up, pulling a Toyata Tundra out of a Nor’easter, throwing keggers backwards into a dumpster, farmers walks…that stuff makes me giggle. And, now CFNE has a 12 week program (4x/week) based on Bergner’s 12 Week Olympic Lift Program.

Just started today with my friend John, we did 18 snatches and a gaggle of power cleans (all done at reduced weights for 3 and 8 reps respectively.)

There is something about having physical strength as a woman that is very appealing to me. It is a level of independence that society does not necessarily stress. We are supposed to be skinny and run quickly but strength is not pushed on the national fitness agenda. I am so beyond the skinny bitch genre. Even those ridiculous books that purport how to be a skinny bitch. Detritus. Complete bilge. Take me back to Xena the Warrior or better yet Linda Hamilton from Terminator 2 (thank god she got rid of her ridiculous albeit talented husband Cameron).

So, I am here to say today that I have stopped dicking around and am ready to get strong.  Way strong. Like Tony Soprano strong when Dr. Melfi fantasized about Soprano as being this fierce German Shepherd.

I am also going to order some of these Atlas Balls so I can put that on my resume. Don’t worry mom, I won’t become Pat by lifting these balls.

I agree, Amanda. Building physical strength increased my emotional strength as well. I feel more confident in every way!

Linda Hamilton…I’d forgotten about her ripped up badness! I’m going to have to rent that movie and get re-inspired by her badassness, as I was a little preoccupied by Edward Furlong when the movie first came out…ah, young love.

On another note, I just have to tell you how much I am loving your blog! I discovered it this morning and feel like if I don’t step away right now, I may get sucked in for hours…I’ll be back to catch up on all that I have been missing! :)
